Hi! I'm Smila! (smEE-LAH)
Smila Gaulkin is an interdisciplinary jewish-thai-french-american multi-media artist who is absolutely not afraid of hyphens. They are a recent graduate of the School of Visual Arts with a BFA in Animation on an Honors liberal arts track. They work in and are intrigued by experimental, textural, and folk art, often concerning tenderness, our relationship with nature, childhood, and subtle gesture.
When not creating, Smila helps others to create! As an aspiring literary editor, she has worked at a publishing house, agency, and library, and is well-versed in children’s publishing, from picture books to young adult.
They are now available for freelance writing, animation, and production design work. Contact her at smila.gaulkin@gmail.com if you would like to commission work, collaborate, or want to chat about cool bugs.
